This was the first project I worked on, that focused on designing and creating a technological design aimed at positively changing a user’s behavior. It served to develop a better understanding of how electronics can function within a prototype and how I, as designer, can use them to create an interaction between design and user. Together with a team mate, we decided to design a water bottle that could give the user a signal when it sensed that the user should drink more water. This idea came from my personal experience at a festival, where the heat and other factors had an enormous influence on the amount of water I had to drink. I tended to forget this as I hopped from stage to stage, which seemed like an interesting design opportunity.
Since I was part of the user group, I had a good idea of how the user-interaction and ways of alerting the user for a lack of hydration could work. I used very quick sketches to work out the basis of the electronics and thereafter I made the electronics and parts of the code. On the next page I posted the full code, which we made together.
